Mooning Metaphors
(a Terza Rima 14-line sonnet: an homage to Dante Alighieri and Percy Shelley)

With Him it doesn't matter what we're hearing.
Tomorrow we'll hear something else again.
More to the point, the Faux Noise that we're fearing

reveals not where we're going. Where we've been,
of course, remains a secret. "Need to know"
means those who know can't count from one to ten

and those who need real knowledge, blow-by-blow,
don't get it. Add things up and we can see
how Ignorance becomes the status quo.

Incompetence then follows, let's agree,
as sycophants surround the one "in charge."
Stenographers "report" (collegially)

that He into our daily lives must barge,
His ego, not His intellect, grown large.

Now Humpty Dumpty has become a meme
for bloated eggs who sit upon a wall
broadcasting loudly what they call their theme

inducing, as we know, their fated fall
which no amount of money can repair.
This story, though, His fanbase does enthrall

who dream of omelets made from empty air
and worship broken eggs upon the ground
as evidence that three things make a pair

and that the earth we know is flat not round.
These metaphors for maniacs we know
from Mother Goose in which such tales abound

and Alice who could always shrink or grow,
unlike our Memes who us their backsides show.
